Cyclocross Season is approaching!  This is probably the best way to step into bicycle racing, as the atmosphere is a little more relaxed than road racing.  Cyclocross is like a cross country runners race  done on bikes.  Typically participants use a bike resembling a road bike with slightly fatter tires, but mountain bikes are quite common for kids getting out to test the waters and see if they like the sport.  Races are two or three laps around a short course having paved, grass, and dirt sections, and usually include a low obstacle and/or short hill to negotiate.   You can try one race, or try and win a series championship by building points in multiple events.  It is a great time for all, lots of cheering crowds, ringing cowbells, and team cameraderie.   Here are the dates, locations are still to be determined:
