We would like to take this time to welcome you to the Cross Creek Cycling Club. Our goal is to provide the opportunity for people of all riding abilities the opportunity to join and ride with an organization that takes great pleasure in the sport of cycling, the continued development of riders young and old and the support of their personal goals through cycling. We are not a racing focused club. Although we have members of the club who do race from time to time, the main purpose of our club is to allow folks across the area to gather and enjoy the sport of cycling. We are always happy to invite all riders of different abilities and experience levels. If you are just getting started in the sport or wish to learn more then there is no better way than to come out and join us for a ride or meeting.
We are proud to have continued support from our sponsors and ask that when you visit or call upon them, to mention how you found or heard about them. During the last seven years our club has continue to grow its’ membership and is looking forward to continued growth this year. Our membership is as diverse as anyone can imagine with riders ranging from the age of 12 to riders in their seventies. Many of our members are active duty or retired military, who with their family members enjoy the sport of cycling in a club environment.
We accomplished many key things that not only enhanced the club as a whole but also our community. Our members volunteered and participated in many community and charitable events like raising more than $75,000 for local and national charities; assisted organizers and rode in the annual CCWS Foundation Ride, Ride for Moses, Ride to Recovery, the Wounded Warrior ride on Fort Bragg and countless other charity rides across the southeast United States. There have been many other ride and non-ride activities that have supported the community and club in positive ways; in 2007 was the development of "Operation Spin Cycle" that assists wounded soldiers in the Warrior Transition Battalion on Fort Bragg; and Operation One Voice that assists wounded soldiers as well.
Many are pleased to know that we continue to be a USA Cycling sanctioned club. Significant accomplishments we are very happy to receive were our selection by USA Cycling as Best New Club of the Year for 2004, Masters Club of the Year for 2005, 2007 & 2010, Division III Club of the Year 2007, and Division II club of the Year for 2008 & 2009. Only one club in the nation receives these awards per year and is a testament to the positive efforts of our members. Currently our USA Cycling license holder’s race throughout the nation from Detroit to Clearwater, FL and all over the Carolina's and are doing quite well. From our humble beginnings almost seven years ago, hosting a time trial training series, an all category 40 kilometer time trial, and road race on the roads of Fort Bragg both were attracting more than 200 racers; to hosting the NC State Criterium Championship with over 550 riders in 2009.
Our website provides a means of communication to inform both members and non-members alike about the cycling opportunities we have available. We are proud to have continued support from our sponsors and ask that you become a valued patron of theirs.
In closing, I would like to add a personal note. I began riding five years ago as a way to supplement my running and military fitness training. I found out about the club through the local bicycle shops and decided to see what bike riding was all about. I was intimated at first, trying to ride with people with years of experience and what looked like very expensive bikes. Instead of shunning me, the club gratefully invited me to the rides, (and many rides after that), and taught me the skills of club riding. Today, using those skills that the club taught me, I strive to do the same to each new rider. This I hope will encourage those of you who have reservations about joining a riding club to come out and give it a try.
