Today we held the first road racing clinic for hte Club of 2008 on Ft. Bragg on the 16.7 mile "Preacher's Loop". We rode for basically 2.25 hrs at a slow pace (i.e. 15 mph - 18 mph predominately) and focused on introducing riders to road racing giving all a chance to learn skills pertinant to road racing. Our original agenda included bridging, gear utilization and selection, and a few other skills but we went a little farther once we were out there and dove into a few more to include cornering, off camber cornering and working thru decisive terrian points.
There were basically two instructors in the main group, Noah and myself. Tom used the clinic as an opportunity to introduce two brand new riders to (one of which is a junior) to the ultra - basics of riding with a group. Overall I believe we had eight different riders trained by 2 coaching. Of that, 5 were licensed, one is also a new member of the club (joined last week).
It was a pretty decent turn out. With two instructors, we were capable of perhpas training up to 20 if necessary. An optional third coach was not available today due to illness but will be around for future ventures. We did theory, demonstration, instruction, then practical exercise, then review. Typical military model. We'll be looking to do another w/in the next few weeks to work criterium skills and then perodically redo the same instruction set thru the year.
