This season, Charlotte Sports Cycling has teamed up once again with East Blvd Bar and Grill, Heartwood Tree Service and the Dirt Divas to host the always exciting winter short track race series.  The winter race series is set to kick off January 19 and will consist of five races.  The short course adds a unique style of racing to the Charlotte area.....short-track mountain bike racing on a 3/4 mile trail with bank turns. It's a cross between a criterium, BMX, cyclo-cross and single-track, super fast and spectator friendly. Charlotte Sports Cycling and the Tarheel Trailblazers have worked hard to create a trail that's exciting for the race participants and fun for the spectators.  Participants, based on category, will race 15 to 25 laps on the fast course. All of the events will be held at Renaissance Park, rain or shine. We plan to have food, coffee, an event photographer, and music at all of five of the events.

For 2008, we have 14 categories, including the every popular Single Speed, three Junior categories and the Masters categories. The ages for the men’s categories have been changed to 19 – 39 and 40+ to help divide the fields more properly.   If you haven’t ever raced the mountain bike or have friends that haven’t ever raced, the Short Track series is a great place to mountain bike racing a try.  It’s actually perfect for kids who want to race.

Registration

Registration for the whole series is now available on the event website and online with Active.com and BikeReg.com.  This is a great opportunity to save a little money if you plan to race the whole series.  The series is once again sanctioned through USA Cycling, so the registration is broken down into those who carry an annual USAC MTB license and those who do not have an annual MTB license. 2008 USAC MTB licenses are now available online at www.usacycling.org
